Send a THANK YOU to Firms that are Maintaining Their DEI Initiatves!

Hello, Friends!

I saw this post on Threads:

I did absolutely no research on the volume of emails/calls firms are receiving in support of DEI because regardless of whether or not it's true, we should be thanking firms that are continuing with their DEI initiatives. Who doesn't like a pat on the back once in awhile? Am I right?

Once again, I've written an email template and included contacts for firms that are committed to DEI. Let's make sure we use our voices for positive reinforcement as well as agents of change. :)

Just in case you need a little extra motivation to send these emails, there is a conservative think tank called the "National Center for Public Policy Research" that is submitting proposals to firms that have stood by their commitment to DEI. The proposal sent to Costco and the response of Costco's Board of Directors is included in this link

Allow me to provide you a couple of my favorite quotes from Costco's response:

"Our Board has considered this proposal and believes that our commitment to an enterprise rooted in respect and inclusion is appropriate and necessary."

"Our efforts at diversity, equity, and inclusion remind and reinforce with everyone at our company the importance of creating opportunities for all."

"We believe that it [DEI] fosters creativity and innovation in merchandise and the services we offer our members."

Get it, Costco.

As of this publication, Apple has not dismantled their DEI initiatives. However, they were sent a similar proposal from the same organization. Apple's Board of Directors is recommending that shareholders vote AGAINST the proposition at the shareholders' meeting on February 25, 2025 (they are encouraging shareholders to keep DEI). So, in addition to providing some positive feedback to firms that are standing by DEI, let's ensure that firms on the fence hear the voices of support over the voices of dissent.

Here is some additional information about right-leaning groups targeting firms that have not rolled back DEI in case you are interested.

I hope you will take a few minutes out of your day to copy and paste the email template below and send it to the contacts I've provided for you (and any others you may be aware of).

Stay informed, Friends!

ab

P.S. I'm certain I missed several firms. I will continue to add to this list. Stay tuned!

Subject: Thank you for you continued support of DEI Initiatives!

To Whom it May Concern:

I wanted to reach out to express my heartfelt gratitude for your firm's commitment to DEI initiatives. As you know, there are many studies which show how DEI initiatives are not just a component of social responsibility; diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace practices have a positive impact on market share, revenue, employee retention, employee engagement, and productivity of leadership. Several such studies are cited below.

As a stakeholder who is proud to financially support you, thank you. Thank you for recognizing that there are gaps that we can close with awareness, education, and support of marginalized communities. Keep up the good work!

A loyal customer,
